2.- Weather

Quintana Roo is a warm destination with lots of sun. The temperature most of the time is between 25-30 degrees Celsius, not counting the rainy season that runs from June to October, so the best months to travel are November-May.

3.- Main cities and their attractions

  • Cancún: One of the main cities and the most recognized worldwide for its beautiful beaches, cultural mix, unique activities, and nightlife. If you’re looking to stay in an all-included hotel but at the same time have the option to go to malls, archeological zones, theme parks, bars and meet other people this is the ideal option for you.
  • Playa del Carmen: An excellent site if you like the calmness of the beach and crowded streets full of bars, souvenir shops, and people. It's famous “Fifth Avenue” will offer you all that, so if you stay here, either at a hotel or Airbnb you can walk anywhere, without the need for a car. Unlike Cancun, here most of the lodgings don’t have a beach so if you want to go probably you’ll have to pay for access, rent chairs, or consume food to enter.
  • Bacalar: Bacalar is a beautiful Magical Town, with endless natural attractions. If you want to disconnect for a while, live in front of lagoons and kayaking, transport by bicycle, and visit small local restaurants, this is your best choice. Being a quiet place, it’s better to go with friends so you never get bored.
  • Cozumel: A small island that is surprisingly the largest in the Mexican Caribbean. A complete experience, to get there you’ll have to take a “ferry” (boat) that lasts 45 minutes and you can go up to the top, enjoying the cool breeze and even the music. On the island, there are a large number of beaches and nature reserves where you will find unique animals and perform activities such as diving and parasailing.
  • Tulum: This Magical Town is one of the tourists’ favorites, as it is always full of life and events. With its alternative atmosphere, this is the perfect place if in the morning you want to explore its archeological zones and lagoons and rest on the beach and in the afternoon you want to party and loud music.

4.- Recommendations

Regarding the weather, always use sunscreen, since you don’t want to ruin your vacation the first day because your body hurts. Preferably that it is biodegradable to take care of the ecosystems. And we recommend you to bring some sweaters in case it gets cool at night or you go somewhere with A.C.

Concerning costs, there isn’t much distance between cities, it is best to try to visit as many as possible. That’s the reason why renting a car is your best option, since it’ll be cheaper and you’ll save money. The following image shows the distance between Cancun and Bacalar (320 km), so it would take you approximately 4 hours to go from one point to another.

Also, buy tickets in advance. If you’re thinking of visiting theme parks, for example, it is more convenient to buy them as soon as possible, if you wait until the last moment it will be much more expensive.

Quintana Roo is a state dedicated in the first instance to tourism, that’s why US dollars are widely accepted in some restaurants, hotels, and taxis. And although it is not beneficial because of the exchange rate, it could be helpful if you have a limited amount of Mexican pesos and prefer to save them for another time.

5.- Curious facts

Quintana Roo is the cradle of miscegenation of the American continent, being a product of the marriage between Gonzalo Guerrero and the daughter of Nachancan, senior of Chactemal. It has the three longest underwater rivers in the world, the first being “Ox Bel Ha” with 257,916 km of longitude followed by “Sistema Sac Actun” and “Dos Ojos”.

It also has the second-largest reef in the world among the Caribbean Sea, the great Mayan Reef, with approximately 1000 km of extension. It is home to 65 coral species, 350 mollusk species, and more than 500 fish species. Another living proof of how wonderful this place is.
